Featuring a compact and lightweight design, a super telephoto zoom range reaching 400mm, fast and precise autofocus performance, and a built-in Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization system, the FE 100-400mm F5.6-8 OSS offers photography enthusiasts the opportunity to capture distant and moving subjects with high image quality.
Sony has introduced the FE 100-400mm F5.6-8 OSS, a 100-400mm super telephoto zoom lens developed for 35mm full-frame Alpha™ E-mount cameras. The new lens, which makes it easier to bring difficult-to-approach subjects into the frame, offers a compact and lightweight design with a weight of approximately 654g despite its super telephoto zoom range reaching 400mm. The new optical design, featuring two ED (Extra Low Dispersion) glass elements and two aspherical elements, ensures superior image quality throughout the zoom range. With its fast and precise autofocus (AF) performance, the FE 100-400mm F5.6-8 OSS helps capture moving subjects such as birds, sporting events, trains, and airplanes, and also supports handheld shooting in the super telephoto range thanks to its built-in Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization system.
Jazz Sidharh, Sony Europe Imaging Products and Solutions Lens Marketing Manager, commenting on the new lens, said, “Combining superior portability with high image quality, the FE 100-400mm F5.6-8 OSS is easily portable despite its super telephoto zoom range. This makes it an ideal option for users who want to take their first steps into super telephoto photography while capturing high-quality images.”

Compact, lightweight and easy-to-use design for beginners in super telephoto photography
Weighing approximately 654g, the compact and lightweight design offers a 100-400mm super telephoto zoom range in an easily portable body. The lens provides comfortable handheld shooting while also facilitating quick framing. This allows users to impressively capture hard-to-reach subjects such as birds and sporting events. The lens also allows for the capture of landscape photographs typical of super telephoto by taking advantage of the "compression effect" which brings foreground and background elements closer together. With the optional 2x teleconverter, the 1 lens increases the focal length, supporting focal lengths up to 800mm, and up to 1,200mm in APS-C mode.
Built-in Optical SteadyShot™ with fast and precise AF for moving subjects
The linear motor delivers fast, precise, and silent AF performance, making it easy to track moving subjects. When used with the full-frame mirrorless camera Alpha 9 III, the lens supports high-speed continuous shooting at approximately 120 frames per second with AF/AE tracking 2 .
The built-in Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization system effectively reduces camera shake during handheld shooting, helping to keep the frame more stable when capturing distant objects. The lens also supports Active Mode image stabilization and body-lens coordinated image stabilization control on compatible camera bodies ( 3 ). This allows for high-quality photos and videos by reducing blur even during handheld shooting. In video recording, it works in conjunction with focus breathing compensation ( 4 ) which corrects changes in the angle of view that occur when the focus position changes.
Reliable and functional design for outdoor shooting
Customizable focus hold button, focus mode/range switch and zoom lock provide quick and convenient control in different shooting scenarios. Dust and moisture resistant design 5 helps you confidently continue shooting in unexpected weather conditions. The included lens hood helps reduce glare and ghosting that can negatively affect image quality.
