Designed for filmmakers and content creators on the move, the Nikon ZR is set to take the video production experience one step further with the new firmware version 2.00. Combining a cinematic experience in a lightweight and compact body, the Nikon ZR features a 6K full-frame sensor, advanced color technology, a large built-in monitor, and an integrated 32-bit float audio system, reducing the need for external equipment while delivering a powerful shooting experience.
Firmware 2.00 further expands the ZR’s video production capabilities with a range of new features. The update will add support for Log3G10 and REDWideGamutRGB in H.265 recording, a new High ISO Noise Reduction option for H.265 Log recording, and focus peaking support for R3D NE recording.
Nikon ZR’s Video Capabilities Expand
Nikon is preparing to take the capabilities of the ZR even further with the new firmware version 2.00. The update is designed to make shooting and post-production workflows more flexible for a wide range of users, from content creators to professional filmmakers. With the new firmware update, the Nikon ZR will support Log3G10 and REDWideGamutRGB in the H.265 video file format, providing greater resilience for color grading while keeping file sizes to a minimum. This will allow users to adjust the image character according to their shooting requirements, particularly when working at high ISO settings. Another new feature is the High ISO NR (Noise Reduction) option, which can be used with H.265 Log recording. This will provide greater flexibility in tailoring the look of footage to the purpose of the shoot and the desired tone of the project. While maintaining smaller file sizes, the feature will also offer greater flexibility during color correction and grading. Focus peaking support for R3D NE recording is another key feature of the update. When recording in the R3D NE video file format, users will have more precise control over focusing.
In addition, Nikon is also enhancing frequently requested features such as Open Gate recording and a desqueeze display for use with anamorphic lenses. Nikon plans to integrate these features into the ZR’s firmware in 2027.
