The "Talking Photography" exhibition, prepared with the invitation of Suna's Daughters, meets art lovers at Pera Café, located on the ground floor of Pera Museum, between 21 November and 3 December.
Suna's Daughters "Talking Photography" exhibition, which includes photographs of the daily life experiences of 50 girls and young women between the ages of 8 and 20 from various provinces of Turkey, allows us to understand from their eyes what it means to be a girl, to discover how they look at life, and to get closer to their experiences. As a mediator, it opens a window into girls' lives and allows us to hear their voices.
Each photograph invites viewers to tell a story about the unique life journey of the girl who took that shot and to be a part of this story, as well as to discover how they look at life and to get closer to the experiences they have.
The exhibition, developed with the "Talking Photography" (photovoice) method, which combines visual art with verbal storytelling and empowers participants to tell their stories, can be visited between 21 November - 3 December at Pera Café on the ground floor of the Pera Museum.
Suna's Daughters General Coordinator Burcu Gündüz Maşalacı , "With the Talking Photography exhibition, we aim for everyone to encounter the various perspectives of girls. We invite them to see and hear what they see and tell in the world of adults in different regions of Türkiye, both girls and children, and to redesign our lives to include them." said.
In order for children from all segments of society to benefit from the services provided to children by the public, private sector and civil society; Maşalacı stated that they aim to contribute to the design of spaces, programs and activities for girls, together with girls, taking into account their unique needs. "We adopt the approach. The scope of the Talking Photography exhibition was designed with this approach at the center. The exhibition gives us the opportunity to look at the world through the eyes of girls and establish a bond with them." he added.
Preparations for the "Talking Photography" exhibition started in October with supportive workshops for Suna's Daughters stakeholders working with children in the field. Melis Cin and Nilay Yılmaz from the InCommon team led the workshops on the "Talking Photography" (photovoice) method. Immediately after these workshops, a "Basic Photography" workshop was held by Gökçe Uysal with the same participants. The field application of the exhibition with children was facilitated by Suna's Daughters stakeholders who completed these workshops. In the field implementations of the Talking Photography workshops, the Support to Life Association, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Neighborhood Houses, Koç School, Sulukule Volunteers Association and Suna's Daughters field teams provided significant support and ensured that children's photographs and stories reached the relevant people.
The idea for the exhibition was born with the aim of bringing girls' perspectives and voices to the "Girl-Centered Design" conference held on November 3; Content design was prepared by InCommon team, visual design was prepared by Gigler Creative.
