Canon introduced the long-awaited EOS R3, a powerful camera for portraiture as well as sports and wildlife photography. Blending tradition with cutting-edge technology, the EOS R3 offers all the beloved features and speed of Canon's famous EOS-1 series, with the innovation and versatility of the pioneering EOS R system.
Designed with feedback from the most demanding professional photographers, the EOS R3 delivers a product that takes the connection between camera and photographer to new levels to deliver unrivaled speed and responsiveness.
Featuring over 100 improvements compared to Canon's mirrorless and DSLR models, the EOS R3 provides news and sports photographers with a camera that performs well above its peers, thanks to its brand new and innovative 24.1 megapixel sensor and optimum balance of performance, resolution and speed.
Offers the Fastest and Most Capable of Electronic Shutters
Taking advantage of the game-changing new 24.1-megapixel back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensor, the EOS R3 captures scenes at lightning speed and greater precision. The powerful sensor offers fast shutter speeds ranging from 30 seconds to 1/64,000 seconds, virtually eliminating “rolling shutter distortion” and allowing sports photographers to freeze even the fastest moving figures. When photographers use an electronic shutter, they can shoot up to 30 frames/sec with AE and AF tracking, even when shooting RAW files, and they have options to shoot at 15 frames/sec and 3 frames/sec. Additionally, for the first time, a Canon electronic shutter can be used with both Canon and third-party flashes. Addressing the traditional weaknesses of electronic shutters, Canon introduces flicker detection and high-frequency anti-flicker shooting mode to detect and correct flickering light sources and prevent banding or color and exposure issues.
The high speed performance of EOS R3 is evident in focusing as well as frames per second. Capable of focusing in 0.03 seconds, the EOS R3 stands out as the fastest EOS R series camera ever produced. Supported by Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, EOS R3 includes a “deep learning algorithm”, a sub-branch of improved AI. Thanks to this algorithm, it offers AF tracking in videos, including eye, body and face detection in humans and animals, as well as head detection for humans.
In this camera, which was designed with the needs of motor sports photographers in mind, Canon also offers the vehicle tracking function to the users. It allows photographers to expertly track motorcycles, open-cockpit Formula cars, GT and rally cars with the ability to prioritize the vehicle or driver's helmet. Eye, face, head and body detection can now be used in all AF modes, and a new Flexible Zone feature is also included on the device, allowing users to choose the size and shape of the Zone AF area. The EOS R3 stands out with its ability to focus in extremely low lighting conditions of -7.5 EV, making it the most capable low-light camera available on the market.
Maximizing the user's control over all AF options, EOS R3 offers three different ways to select the AF point. These; Fast smart controller, precise multi-controller and intuitive Eye Control AF. Eye Control AF creates a more natural connection between camera and photographer. This intuitive and pioneering AF point selection method moves the focus point wherever the photographer is looking. In situations where the story the photographer desires may emerge, this feature allows photographers to instinctively focus on the action with just a glance.
Enhancing the ability to produce handheld shooting and steady video on the go, the 5-axis In-Body Image Stabilizer can combine with the optical Image Stabilizer on select RF lenses and deliver industry-leading performance of up to 8 stops.
Outshine Your Competitors While Transferring Records!
For professional photographers shooting in the field, the speed of delivering the footage to news desks and editors is as important as the speed of capturing the moment. With a variety of professional connectivity options, including built-in 5.0 version Bluetooth and 5 GHz Wi-Fi, EOS R3 streamlines workflows and makes connecting with a smartphone or Wi-Fi network easier. Ideal for sports arenas, the built-in Gigabit Ethernet port allows high-speed wired connections. Additionally, when speed is a must, photographers can transfer their images to their clients via FTP. When used with the WFT-R10 wireless file streamer, existing EOS R5 and EOS-1D X Mark III users can share network settings between three cameras.
Users can remotely control the camera from a mobile device with Canon's Camera Connect app or the Browser Remote function via Ethernet connection. Browser Remote, a popular feature of the EOS-1D X Mark III, allows users and headquarters to remotely modify metadata and browse and download images. Professional photographers can access Canon's Mobile File Transfer (MFT) application, which is expected to be available in early 2022, with which they can transfer their images to the FTP/FTPS/SFTP server via a mobile device. With future updates, it is planned to add the feature of converting voice notes to text, providing ease of use for professionals. With the Smartphone Mount AD-P1, a new smartphone holding accessory for the EOS R3, users can attach their iOS or Android devices to the “multifunctional accessory shoe adapter”, which is expected to be available in early 2022, and easily transfer their images via the new MFT application. In a first for an EOS camera, the Canon Camera Connect app now allows EOS R3 firmware to be updated over the phone.
Revolutionizes Video Quality of High-Speed Images
Like the EOS R5, the EOS R3 takes Canon's hybrid capability to the next level, allowing photographers to capture the action with both high-quality stills and stunning high-resolution video. This machine offers robust video capability, capturing 6K 60p RAW resolution images that offer 50 percent more detail than 4K. Post-capture exposure and white balance correction can be performed on 6K CRM RAW files for impressive image reproduction. Oversampling of 4K content from 6K to 60p ensures the highest possible 4K video quality. Ideal for high-speed and dynamic sports, the EOS R3 can shoot 4K 120p content for slow motion in outstanding 4K resolution. In addition, with EOS R3, if the battery level, memory card and temperature are suitable, up to six hours of normal video and up to 1.5 hours of video at high 119.88/100p frame rates can be shot.
EOS R3 helps videographers and photographers leave their competitors behind with its superior features.
