The most anticipated members of the EOS R mirrorless series: EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II
The launch of the EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II full-frame mirrorless cameras represents a turning point in Canon's history. The EOS R1 is the first camera in the EOS R series of the EOS-1 series, famous for its legacy of high performance and reliability. The EOS R5 Mark II model replaces the highly acclaimed EOS R5 by combining high resolution, speed and 8K video performance.
Both models feature many extra benefits, including sensors with higher pixel count, advanced LEDs, expanded eye detection areas, and an updated detection algorithm that offers a unique and natural way to select subjects in complex scenes.
Thanks to the new imaging platform, the EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II offer four times higher resolution or less in-camera noise when using JPEG or HEIF formats. Users achieve improved image quality with deep learning, in-camera resolution enhancement and noise reduction. However, by cropping and increasing the resolution in-camera, you can easily send photos without the need for other editing applications.
Both cameras come with up to 8.5 stops of image stabilization, with effective shooting features especially in low light or other challenging shooting conditions.
The EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II offer 12-bit RAW video built into the memory card for videographers. It also provides proxy video recording and quad-channel audio capability using Cinema EOS Video Recording formats along with Canon Log 2 and 3. This takes professional video production to new heights, delivering exceptional quality and creative flexibility no matter the shooting scenario. The cameras offer an external recording option via their HDMI type A port, recording high-resolution photos and Full HD videos simultaneously.
The machines feature a variety of features that offer fast and stable connectivity and fail-safe options to support professionals' workflow. The C2PA content verification format maintains multiple routes to image/video destinations, such as submitting news or reviewing early footage of a movie.
It also provides support for industry-standard file naming, separate photo/video folders, and advanced tagging in the News ML-G2 standard. While both cameras are the first EOS series cameras to offer new levels of transfer speed by supporting Wi-Fi6E/11ax 6GHz in-body, the EOS R1 also supports in-body 2.5 Gbps Ethernet connectivity and Dual Threaded FTP, with users benefiting from 2.5 Gbps Ethernet capacity via the optional handle on the EOS R5 Mark II.
Canon's new flagship product EOS R1 camera is available
Exactly 35 years after the launch of the first EOS-1, the EOS R1 inherits the camera legacy for professionals everywhere with game-changing autofocus, speed, reliability and durability.
Designed for elite sports photographers, the EOS R1 ensures that no moment is missed in the fast-paced world of sports and news photography. EOS R1 overcomes all challenging conditions thanks to being a unique product equipped with the Cross-Type AF system that sets new standards.
This cutting-edge technology, a first for Canon, stands out with a brand new Dual Pixel CMOS AF sensor arrangement. In this new arrangement, each GB cell of pixels is rotated 90 degrees to offer autofocus tracking precision along the vertical and horizontal axis of the sensor. This gives users fast, accurate results and the opportunity to capture an image they may have missed before.
The camera offers an outstanding 40fps silent electronic shutter with AF tracking and 20fps front continuous-shooting capability. This allows users to follow the scene without compromising image quality. While offering exceptional high-speed performance with its 24.2 megapixel resolution; With deep learning, image resolution enhancement and noise reduction, this resolution rate reaches up to 96 megapixels in the camera. Improved flash sync speeds of up to 1/400 of a second deliver greater consistency and versatility across different types of photography with white balance and image exposure evaluation. Additionally, the EOS R1 supports hybrid multimedia functionality with Full HD at 240 fps, as well as 6K at 60 fps or 4K at 120 fps.
EOS R1 offers the best performance even in the most challenging shooting conditions with its renewed outer texture, integrated vertical handle and weather-resistant body. Its anti-fog high-resolution electronic viewfinder (EVF) and large viewfinder protective cover make it a comfortable camera for long-term sports shooting. The newly added two-stage AF-ON button allows immediate activation of two programmable functions in a single button.
