Ayvalık Photos Revealed from Ara Güler Archive

The new exhibition of Ara Güler Museum, "Ayvalık-Istanbul", which was launched in 2016 by Doğuş Group in collaboration with Ara Güler, opened its doors to visitors.

The Ayvalık-Istanbul exhibition, held in cooperation with Ara Güler Museum and Ayvalık Municipality, brings together a total of 36 frames, including Ara Güler's little-known or hitherto unpublished Ayvalık photographs, as well as color photographs of the city of Istanbul that is identified with him.

Ayvalık is a place where Ara Güler spent the summer months for many years, where he both vacationed and continued his work. Ara Güler wrote the text, one of his most important interviews, in Ayvalık, in which he tells the story of going to the village of Geyre, which is registered as the Aphrodisias Archaeological Site on the UNESCO World Heritage List. In addition, he also wrote the stories about how he took the portraits of Salvador Dali, Marc Chagall and Bertrand Russell, published in the book Seven Traces on Earth .

The photographs in the exhibition, which include views of Ayvalık and its surroundings, testify to the times Ara Güler spent in Ayvalık over the years.

Ara Güler Museum's new exhibition "Ayvalık - Istanbul" can be visited at Ayvalık Kırlangıç Life Center between 19 October and 19 November 2023.
