The winner of the Türkiye National Award, organized within the scope of the Sony World Photography Awards, the world's largest photography competition, was photographer Burak Şenbak from Istanbul.
Şenbak's photograph titled 'Cockfighting' was chosen as the best photograph among ten Open categories. Şenbak, a freelance photographer from Istanbul, received a Sony a6000 camera as a reward. In addition, the winning photograph will be featured in the 2016 Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition, to be held at Somerset House in London from 22 April to 8 May, and in the annual Sony World Photography Awards book.
Speaking about his award-winning photo, Şenbak said, "The photo was taken in Indonesia on 19.05.2015. Two men wearing local clothes are preparing the roosters for a fight. It is officially forbidden to have the roosters fight in Indonesia. As a matter of fact, this scene was prepared only as a mise-en-scène for the photo; otherwise, they do not make the roosters fight. The men spray the water they filled in their mouths on their faces to disturb and anger the roosters. After this process, if they release the roosters, the roosters immediately "They are fighting, but as I said, it was not done that way. Since I wanted to add a slight motion blur effect to the photo, I took it with a relatively long exposure time of 1/15 second." he said.
The photographer who won second place in the Türkiye National Award was Gültekin Alkurt with his photograph titled 'My Childhood'.
In the National Award program, which is held in 60 countries around the world, from Argentina to Australia, the best photograph taken by a photographer from each country is selected and rewarded.All 60 National Award winners have been announced. The Sony World Photography Awards will continue with the announcement of the winners of the Open and Youth categories on March 29, followed by the announcement of the winners of the Professional/Open/Student/Youth Photographers of the Year as well as the winners of the Professional categories on April 21.
