A Journey Through İFSAK’s Photographic Archive
Bulgur Palas, restored and repurposed for Istanbul by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), is hosting “First Step / Breath / Heart,” an exhibition specially prepared to mark İFSAK’s 67th anniversary. Curated by Ömer Orhun, the exhibition aims to share with the public the valuable legacy of the association’s volunteer and amateur founders, who established İFSAK in 1959.
Through competitions, photography and short film festivals, events, print and digital publications, introductory photography workshops, projects, exhibitions, trips, and the contributions of thousands of members over the years, İFSAK continues to serve as an important witness and contributor to our collective visual and social memory.

Spanning two floors of Bulgur Palas, “First Step / Breath / Heart” features works from İFSAK’s archive, including photographs by association members as well as photographers from outside the organization who have supported its activities over the years. The exhibition makes the association’s extensive legacy and the stories it has documented through its amateur spirit visible to the public, sharing this rich photographic heritage with the people of Istanbul.
