Apple has unveiled the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, Apple Watch Series 12, Apple Watch Ultra 4, and AirPods 5. The most attention-grabbing product at the event was the iPhone Duo, marking Apple's entry into the foldable smartphone market. The book-style device features a 5.4-inch display when folded and transforms into a large 7.6-inch display when unfolded.
Apple positions the iPhone Duo as one of the biggest design changes in the history of the iPhone lineup. Its large display allows users to run multiple apps simultaneously and provides a larger workspace.
iPhone Duo features a 7.6-inch display
The outer display of the iPhone Duo measures 5.4 inches. When the phone is unfolded, it reveals a 7.6-inch inner display.
According to Apple, the inner display is approximately 50 percent larger than the display on the iPhone 18 Pro Max. This larger screen is particularly useful for watching videos, browsing the web, editing documents, and multitasking.
The Duo's foldable display also takes advantage of iOS multitasking features. Users can run two different apps side by side or use multiple windows of the same app.
Both displays support ProMotion technology and feature an Always-On Display. Apple also offers high brightness levels designed to improve visibility outdoors.
Titanium body and specially designed hinge
Apple uses titanium in the iPhone Duo's design. The company has also developed a specially engineered hinge mechanism, one of the most critical components of a foldable device.
Apple's goal is to improve durability during repeated opening and closing while minimizing visual distortion around the folding area.
The phone also offers IP68 water and dust resistance. The front features Ceramic Shield 2 technology.
When folded, the Duo has a passport-like form factor. When unfolded, it offers the largest display ever seen on an iPhone.
Powered by the A20 Pro chip
The iPhone Duo is powered by the next-generation A20 Pro chip.
Built using a 2-nanometer manufacturing process, the chip is designed to improve artificial intelligence workloads, graphics performance, and power efficiency.
The A20 Pro features a 6-core CPU and 7-core GPU. Apple also uses a new vapor chamber-based cooling system to help the device maintain performance during extended use.
The Duo also features Apple's new C2 modem technology, part of the company's strategy to increase the use of its own connectivity components.
iPhone Duo features a dual 48 MP camera system
The iPhone Duo features two 48 MP cameras on the rear.
The camera system supports wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle photography. The ultra-wide camera also enables macro photography.
Unlike the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, the Duo does not feature a variable-aperture main camera. This feature is exclusive to the Pro models.
The foldable design also creates new possibilities for photography. Users can use the outer display as a preview screen when taking selfies with the main camera.
Apple also introduces a feature called Smart Take for the Duo, which helps users capture photos by detecting the appropriate positioning of people within the frame.
Touch ID makes a comeback
Apple uses Touch ID instead of Face ID on the iPhone Duo.
The fingerprint sensor is integrated into the side button of the device. This eliminates the need for the sensor array required for Face ID within the foldable display design.
Apple Pencil support
One of the iPhone Duo's notable features is Apple Pencil support.
Thanks to the large 7.6-inch inner display, users can take notes, draw, and perform various productivity tasks directly on the iPhone.
This feature shows that Apple is positioning the Duo not only as a foldable smartphone but also as a larger-screen productivity device.
Up to 2 TB of storage
The iPhone Duo is available with 256 GB, 512 GB, 1 TB, and 2 TB of storage.
The highest-capacity 2 TB option is particularly useful for users who capture high-resolution photos and videos.
Apple's announced starting price for the Duo in the United States is $1,999. Pre-orders will begin on October 16, with sales starting on October 23.
Battery life and fast charging
Apple says the Duo uses a dual-cell battery architecture.
The device offers up to 24 hours of usage under mixed-use conditions. Video playback on the large inner display can reach up to 31 hours.
With fast charging, the device can reach approximately 50 percent charge in 20 minutes.
iPhone 18 Pro Max also unveiled
Another major product introduced at the event was the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Unlike the foldable Duo, the 18 Pro Max retains the traditional iPhone design while introducing upgrades to the camera system, performance, artificial intelligence, and battery life.
The model features a 6.9-inch display with ProMotion technology and an Always-On Display.
48 MP variable-aperture main camera
One of the most significant upgrades on the iPhone 18 Pro Max comes to the camera system. The model features a 48 MP main camera with a variable aperture.
Variable aperture allows the lens opening to be adjusted depending on shooting conditions. This is designed to allow more light to enter in low-light situations and provide greater control over depth of field in portrait photography.
Apple also includes a 48 MP ultra-wide camera and a 48 MP telephoto camera in the system.
Higher performance with the A20 Pro
The iPhone 18 Pro Max is also powered by the A20 Pro chip.
Built using 2-nanometer manufacturing technology, the processor is designed to improve overall performance, particularly in artificial intelligence workloads and graphics processing.
Apple says the new chip also helps enable advanced AI models to run directly on the iPhone.
New technology for verifying photos
Apple introduced the Apple Reference Image system with the iPhone 18 Pro models, designed to help verify the authenticity of photographs.
The company also announced SynthID support to help identify images that have been generated or edited using artificial intelligence.
However, according to Apple, some of these features will not be available in the European Union and China.
Up to 43 hours of video playback
The iPhone 18 Pro Max also brings significant improvements in battery life.
The model offers up to 43 hours of video playback. Apple has also improved its fast-charging capabilities.

The iPhone 18 Pro Max is available with 256 GB, 512 GB, 1 TB, and 2 TB of storage.
